Where To Go On Holiday In Indonesia

Indonesia presents an assault on the senses, with its mix of cultures, vibrancy and contrast of peaceful beaches and lively bars. Comprising of over 18,000 islands (OK so only 6,000 of those inhabited) there's no shortage of options for a holiday!

Of the islands Bali is undoubtedly the most popular as a holiday destination. Here luxury awaits in the form of pampering and cocktails, all set to a backdrop of awe-inspiring rice paddies and idyllic beaches. It therefore comes as no surprise that many choose Bali as a honeymoon destination, though here at Where to Go on Holiday we feel you don't need an excuse to grab your slice of paradise.

Neighbouring Java sees its fair share of the action too. Home to the country's larger cities such as Jakarta, this is the one-stop shop for a perfect blend of rest and relaxation and urban playground.

On the island of Sumatra holiday makers can attempt to spot a raft of endangered species such as the Sumatran tiger and the Sumatran rhino, whilst across the water in Borneo hidden amongst the verdant jungle lives the endangered Borneo orang-utan. Perhaps now is the time to visit with large amounts of deforestation taking place, one can only wonder how long these species have left.

If it's the underwater world that you'd like to explore then you're in for a treat with the Lesser Sunda Islands (also known as Nusa Tenggara), Bali, Lombok, Sulawesi and the Alor Archipelago which are all well regarded dive sites with varying degrees of difficulty.

Alternatively to escape the beaten track consider the islands of Maluku, also known as Moluccas, where mountains, active volcanoes and spices dominate the landscape.
